FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS YOUR COVID-19 POLICY FOR 2023?

In thinking of everyone's safety, please do your best to limit your possible exposure to COVID-19 in the week leading up to your participation in Brazil Camp. If you're flying in, we strongly recommend wearing a suitable face covering during your travels.

Vaccinations are encouraged but not required. All CBC attendees must have a negative COVID-19 test result (test can be PCR, witnessed antigen, or a self-administered antigen test) and be able to provide proof of their test result upon arrival. Tests must have been administered within 48 hours prior to arrival at camp. Follow up testing may be required mid-week if necessary, and anyone with positive results will not be allowed to continue participating. Please bring your own testing kit for mid-week testing. Additional testing may be required in the case of individuals showing symptoms or in close contact with COVID-19 cases. Refunds will be prorated applicably for those symptomatic and/or positive testing individuals who attend less than their registered amount of days; CBC will not be responsible for any additional expenses incurred. There will be hand-sanitizing stations available in addition to the restrooms and hand-washing stations already in place. We have reduced capacity and some events and classes regularly held indoors will be relocated outdoors (including meals). Masks may be required in some indoor spaces.

I'M ALREADY REGISTERED, WHEN IS MY BALANCE DUE?

August 1st.

DO I NEED TO SIGN UP IN ADVANCE FOR CLASSES?

No, you'll be able to choose classes you want to attend each day while at camp. We only ask that you try to attend classes of an appropriate skill level.

CAN I TAKE PHOTOS OR VIDEOS?

Still photos are OK, but we do not allow video recording, as most teachers (and students) would prefer not to be recorded.

CAN I MAKE AUDIO RECORDINGS?

Audio recordings are allowed, ask teachers' approval before recording classes.

CAN I SWITCH SESSIONS ONCE I'VE REGISTERED?

Yes, as long as there's space available.

UH-OH, I CAN'T MAKE IT TO CAMP. CAN I CANCEL MY REGISTRATION?

Cancellations before August 1st will incur a $75 cancellation fee, we will refund the rest of your payments. After August 1st, no refunds are available.

CAN CHILDREN OR TEENS ATTEND CAMP?

Supervised children are welcome, but we do not have any childcare facilities available. Please contact us for more information.

DOES CAMP HAVE A SHUTTLE BUS?

Yes, see the overview page for details.

ARE VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN MEALS AVAILABLE?

We do have vegetarian and some vegan options at all meals. If you have other dietary restrictions please let us know, but you may have to supplement camp meals with your own food.

WILL MY CELL PHONE WORK, OR IS THERE WI-FI AVAILABLE?

Most likely your phone will lose service about a half-hour out, and you'll remain uninterrupted throughout your stay at camp. There is generally wi-fi available at the bakery across the street, although we can't promise.

IS MY RV ALLOWED AT CAMP?

Yes, space permitting, although there are no hook-ups. Please contact us to confirm space.

DOES THE CAMP HAVE A WORK-STUDY PROGRAM?

Yes, but you need to email us and register early (like in January). Be prepared to miss some class time on either side of dinner.

ARE INSTRUMENTS PROVIDED FOR THE CLASSES?

Good question. We do have some camp drums (a few surdos, repiniques, caixas, tamborims, and congas) available for use in the baterias and other classes. Other students will sometimes be willing to share their instruments, but you should plan on bringing what you can to be sure you'll have an instrument to play. There are also instruments available at the camp store for purchase. In addition, we'll have 2 drumsets, 2 pianos, and a bass rig available for ensemble classes.

IS BEDDING PROVIDED?

There are bed frames and thin mattresses in the tents. You should bring a sleeping bag or bedding and a pillow

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE?

Days sometimes get hot (80's-90's), but the nights are usually cold. Layered clothing is essential!

CAN I BRING MY OWN TENT AND CAMPING SUPPLIES?

Yes. If you prefer privacy over sharing a tent with three others, that's a good option. There are plenty of places to pitch your own tent.

WILL MEDICAL SERVICES BE PROVIDED ON SITE?

We will have a trained medical professional on site.
